Kenya Gameparks to Zanzibar: Tour Information

12 day Safari to discover Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha, Masai Mara, Ngorongoro Crater & Serengeti national parks of Kenya and Tanzania. After meeting the tour in Nairobi, we head out into the Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha with Hells Gate National Park and Elsamere close at hand before heading into the Masai Mara and the first glimpse of African wildlife, Tanzania, home to Africas highest peak is next, passing Mt kilimanjaro and optional visit to two of the largest wildlife sanctuaries on the continent, the unique Ngorongoro Crater and Seringeti NP before the tour finishes in Dar el Salaam.

Day 1 we transfer up to to Lake Nakuru.
Day 2 side trip for the day to Lake Nakuru, Leaving the park we cross the Rift Valley to camp on Lake Naivasha.
Day 3 Masai Mara National Reserve
Day 4 Returning to Naivasha we camp beside the lake.
Day 5 Lake Naivasha
Day 6 Return to Nairobi
Day 7 We head south from Nairobi arriving in Arusha.
Day 8 Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater
Day 9 Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 10 Ngorongoro Crater descent and return to Arusha.
Day 11 We head towards Dar es Salaam.
Day 12 Head to Zanzibar or explore Dar Es Salaam.

Day 1 Leaving Nairobi

146 Km, 2 hours - Leaving Nairobi, we transfer up to to Lake Nakuru

Day 2 day trip to Lake Nakuru

150 Km, 6 hours - You can take the side trip for the day to Lake Nakuru, viewing game in a park; famous for its soda lake surrounded by thousands, sometimes millions of pink flamingos. The park is home to over 400 species of bird, and we should spot leopard or black and white rhino among the zebra, waterbuck, impala, giraffe and tree climbing lions. Leaving the park we cross the Rift Valley to camp on Lake Naivasha.

Day 3 Masai Mara

205 Km, 4 hours - We head south to Narok and on to Masai Mara National Reserve; camping on the edge of the park. The sweeping plains evoke a picture of East Africa that most people hold in their minds and are rarely disappointed when confronted with the real thing. Great game viewing is assured all year round. The Mara offers us everything, amazing scenery and abundant wildlife including the big five.

Day 4 Lake Naivasha

205 Km, 4 hours - Returning to Naivasha we camp beside the lake. Close by is Hell's Gate National Park where you can hire bikes to take you around the park and see the herds of zebra, buffalo and antelope. You can also wander in the predator free reserve amongst African game. There is spectacular scenery here; red cliffs, grassy plains and rock towers made of hardened lava and the remains of ancient volcanoes. Also on the lake is Elsamere; once the home of Joy Adamson and Elsa the lion of 'Born Free' fame. Elsamere is now the centre of the Born Free Foundation and you can find out more about their work and take afternoon tea in the gardens.

Day 5 free day at Lake Naivasha

0 Km, 0 hours - Lake Naivasha, camping under the fever trees on the shore of Lake Naivasha, with hippos grazing on the shore in the evening

Day 6 Return to Nairobi

90 Km, 2 hours - We return to Nairobi for a chance to explore the city. In Nairobi town is the National Museum and markets. Close to the camp are; Karen Blixen's house, Langata Giraffe Centre; a day at the races or a round of golf.

Day 7 Drive to Arusha

295 Km, 6 hours - We head south from Nairobi through the Masai plains and cross the border at Namanga into Tanzania; arriving in Arusha late in the day. The country we pass through is sparsely inhabited grassland savannah, inhabited by the Masai.

Day 8 Side trip to the Serengeti and Crater

200/300 Km, 6 hours - Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater
In Arusha you can take an optional side trip to the Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater. The trip is camping, away for three days and two nights. Either one or two of these nights will be inside the park in the parks amidst the animals. If you choose not to visit the park you can wander the markets in Arusha town or do a side trip with one of the many local operators.

Day 9 Serengeti and Crater

200/300 Km, 6 hours - Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 10 Return to Arusha

200 Km, 6 hours - Ngorongoro Crater descent and return to Arusha.

Day 11,12; Drive to Dar es Salaam


370 Km, 6 hours - We head towards the coast past Moshi town the capital city of the Chugga tribe. Skirting the base of snowy Mount Kilimanjaro we camp on the way to Dar es Salaam.

Head out to Zanzibar for some beach R &R or explore Dar Es Salaam at your leisure.
